AMPERE - Additive Manufacturing for Power-dense Electric motor Enhancements

150,178
2019-09-01 to 2022-03-31
Collaborative R&D
This project aims to utilise Additive Manufacturing (AM) to address the key issues with current electric motor design to deliver step changes in power density. The consortium will build upon the existing class-leading motor architectures from Equipmake and utilise targeted cooling of rotor and stator components. HiETA bring their expertise in thermal management and additive manufacturing, with Altair developing their multi-disciplinary optimisation workflows. The consortium will develop and run a prototype system on a bench test station within Equipmake test facilities.

AMPLiFII-2

785,872
2018-02-01 to 2020-07-31
Collaborative R&D
"AMPLiFII 2 is aimed to take the results of the successfully delivered Amplifii project (in the form of a modular, scalable, flexible battery architecture for deployment on low to medium volume vehicle platforms) and accelerate their integration into vehicle products for JLR, JCB, Ariel and ADL. It will take the manufacturing technology developed during Amplifii and adapt it for implementation by the partners. Further, it will develop additional functionality for the AMPLiFII battery system, including 800V high power charging and discharge, location based BMS control, advanced and highly robust cooling, distributed BMS, use of new 21700 cell format, and cost-down measures. The project will result in four fully developed management demonstrator vehicles, a pilot production facility at Delta Motorsport, and a production ready BMS system by Potenza and Trackwise."

Interjet RR - Complete Low Carbon Adaptive and Interactive Low Rolling Resistance and Aerodynamics System

2016-10-01 to 2018-12-31
Collaborative R&D
The Eco low Rolling resistance tyre or EcoRR, project is a follow on from a successful IDP8 Proof of Concept project called EcoRR. The project focus is a tyre which can adapt it’s profile and stiffness dynamically, allowing it to operate in a very low rolling resistance mode, or in a performance grip mode when cornering or braking/accelerating. Proof of concept work showed that with better tyre design and better traction design concluded that the technology was capable of a step change 7% CO2 reduction compared to a vehicle running on conventional pneumatic tyres, and in addition had the potential to improve cornering grip, reduce tyre manufacturing costs, NVH and provide inherent run flat capability. Future development will see ECORR become a fully integrated dynamic component of the Low Carbon Vehicle. To enable this the IDP12 project has built on the existing consortium between Fusion Innovations, UOB and Randle Engineering and added OEM support from OEM's such as Jaguar Land Rover and manufacturing support from Teqniqa and Lyra Electronics.

Lightweight Innovative Flexible Technology (LIFT)

25,132
2016-03-01 to 2017-02-28
Feasibility Studies
LIFT (Lightweight Innovative Flexible Technology) is an exciting one year feasibility project that will investigate a completely new and highly disruptive lightweight automotive suspension system concept. The project partners will make use of the latest materials and structures to combine the necessary elasticity and damping properties with durability and wheel control within a significantly simplified system. Eliminating discrete suspension components and developing an integrated system will provide superior performance and deliver considerable weight and cost savings. The project partners, Simpact, Ariel and University of Warwick, will adopt an advanced CAE modelling approach, coupled with correlation against real-world road and track data for a baseline vehicle, providing the ability to deliver rapid, validated design iterations. On completion of the project the virtual prototype demonstrating the feasibility will be progressed into a physical prototype for road testing.
