This project will develop a multiplex assay that transforms the reliability and efficiency of tapeworm diagnosis. Validation of the assays will be carried out using samples from animals at routine post mortems, where worm numbers are established. Combinations of validated assays, capable of correctly diagnosing worm burden levels, will be identified and the data will be triangulated, enabling detailed interpretation of worm infection. The use of these assays, together with unique algorithms, will provide the basis for an animal worm diagnostic service and will also lay foundations for a point-of-care assay.
