A study into an innovative business model in HVM based on development of a cutting edge web-based end-to-end design, search, source and additive manufacture (AM) / digital fabrication platform. This system would incorporate technological advances in: upstream web-based design & modeling; integration of scanners & mobile devices for 3D scanning; 3D shape-based web search of component catalogues; and full downstream additive manufacturing (AM) through partnership with Renishaw. It has the potential to provide a uniquely accessible & powerful marketing, sourcing and fulfillment business model for HVM, fusing digital fabrication with accurate component sourcing. It can lead to a revolution in supply chain efficiency and sustainable creation and capture of value in the UK.

GRD Development of Prototype
Development of a prototype for a disruptive cross-sectoral and multi-database 3D shape-based search engine platform with associated APIs, plug-ins and Apps. The site will leverage the company’s cutting-edge 3D search technology at its core and will include a suite of related APIs (Application Programming Interfaces) for integration throughout the Internet, as well as Apps for use on mobile devices.
The platform will be tailored to key sectors and the APIs will allow integration with partner
and client sites. The platform will also incorporate leading APIs and features from partners
across the supply chain, including 3D scanners, 'Augmented Reality' viewers and 3D printers.
Target sectors include manufacturing, 3D printing / additive manufacturing, architecture,
furniture, robotics, scientific research, medicine and online gaming.
The platform will disrupt the process of part and design sourcing across these global sectors and supply chains, spurring a revolution in efficiency of matching and global access to suppliers and buyers. At the regional and national level, it will position the UK at the forefront of internet-empowered digital industrialisation, additive manufacturing and next generation 3D shape search technology.
Proof of concept has successfully demonstrated the feasibility and potential of the proposition, both technically and commercially. Early feedback from the industrial and internet sectors has been overwhelmingly positive and eager and the company needs to respond quickly to capitalise on the opportunity. Significant progress and development has been made and the project is now ready for the next stage towards large-scale commercialisation.
The approach and technology are strongly defensible, unique and inimitable, giving
significant confidence, opportunity and competitive advantage.
