Advances in healthcare are helping people live longer than ever before. Within the UK, the \[65+\] age group is the fastest-growing section of the population, set to double by 2040\. An estimated 646,000 people die from a fall each year, making it the second leading cause of unintentional injury death, after road traffic injuries. Hip fractures from falls alone cost an estimated £6m/day or £2.3bn/year. Falls are the main cause of people losing their independence and going into long-term care \[NHS-England-2022\]. Falls are likely to result in a 999 emergency, which could be avoided with better self-management, ultimately preventing the growing strain on the NHS. MyLiferaft is a digital self-management tool for elderly people and their care network, allowing users a more independent livelihood, and reducing stress levels. Kuradocs' vision is to reduce reliance on healthcare services The MyLiferaft self-management tool has a simple vision: make it easier for an elderly person's support network to help them live a rich and healthy life. Enabling join-up between services both formal and informal. Supporting individuals to learn about risks, perform their risk assessments, create guided action plans and access resources to reduce the risks. The platform also provides easy team communication so others who will help them implement the action plans can collaborate for shared goals. In this project, Kuradocs will work with leading web designers and UX researchers Netsells to consult stakeholders (users e.g over 65s, customers e.g social care teams and the healthcare ecosystem e.g ambulance crew) to define user need, barriers for uptake and opportunities. Netsells will translate these learnings into a needs list with a matrix of design specifications/adaptations. The feedback will be the catalyst for the development of MyLiferaft, critically making sure we build an accessible tool that meets the needs of users.
