Spinout profile
Company description
www.sarissa-biomedical.com A company that sells microelectrode biosensors for neurotransmitters and metabolites around the world. I am an inventor of the IP that underlies this company and founded it. Sarissa started to trade in 2005. Initially selling just biosensors for ATP, it then extended into other purines. Currently it sells biosensors for a total of 10 analytes -the most comprehensive range in the world, and has a collaborative agreement to provide biosensors for a company in the US (Pinnacle Technology).
Project impact
We have used Sarissa's technology extensively in our MRC funded projects to measure both CO2 and glucose dependent ATP release. Sarissa's technology has featured in more than 50 scientific papers, including 18 that come from commercial customers that have no link to me. Many of these papers are in high impact journals such as Nature, Science, Neuron, Nature Medicine. Sarissa has so far run 3 workshops for new and prospective customers -these last a whole day and provide hands-on training and experience of using the biosensors with a number of different in vitro preps. All of the workshops have attracted visitors from overseas including North America and the EU.
