Company description
Drop-Tech has developed a micro-droplet screen technology for use in small molecule screening, kinetic assays and forensics.
Drop-Tech Ltd has developed a droplets-on-demand sampler that allows the creation of microfluidic droplet sequences from up to 24 samples. The sampler can be used as an add-on for chip-based experiments to allow input of various samples in a specific user-defined sequence: automated chip-less droplet generation; easy interfacing with microfluidic chips; controlled size, spacing and sequence and synergistic and combinatorial screening.
Project impact
In collaboration with the collaborators at Imperial a company was set-up that holds IP developed in this grant. Currently the first product is marketed via Dolomite as the Mitos Dropix. Mitos Dropix is a droplet-on-demand microfluidic system designed for easy generation of extremely miniaturized droplet compartments with excellent control over volume, environment and isolation of contents. This compact and portable system can generate droplets of up to 24 different samples and store up to 1000 droplets with sizes down to 50nl. Benefiting a wide range of industries including pharmaceutical, food, agrochemical, cosmetics and research, Mitos Dropix can be used for a variety of applications such as droplet library creation, cell encapsulation, diagnosis screening, synthetic chemistry and drug bioassays. Mitos Dropix was developed by Dolomite under exclusive sub-licence with Drop-Tech Ltd. having won Dolomite's 2012 Productizing Science competition. Drop-Tech was formed from an academic collaboration between Cambridge University and Imperial College London and is the exclusive licensee of their patented droplet generation technology used in Mitos Dropix.

Market Research for cell-based assays in microfluidic droplets - Drop-Tech
1 Aug 2013 to 30 Nov 2013
Cell-based assays for single cells currently rely on imaging and thus 'fixing' the cells on a glass slide, or screening cells by flow cytometry: both techniques damage or even kill the cells. Droplet technology is becoming attractive because of its inherent sample and cost savings and microfluidic droplets are particularly suited to isolating single cells...
