Projects
Adaptive and Circular Manufacturing of Modular Filtration Systems from ThermoplasticWaste
1 Apr 2026 to 31 Mar 2029
REFLOW is an international collaboration involving partners from Slovenia, the United Kingdom, and Portugal, working together to address one of Europe's most persistent circular-economy challenges: the recycling and reuse of cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE). XLPE is widely used in critical infrastructure---such as energy cables, construction materials and...
SWIFFT - Smart Wheel Integrated Fit & Forget Technology
1 Jan 2025 to 31 Mar 2025
This project looks to take existing sensor array technology and investigate the feasibility of implementing a novel robust passive energy harvesting system and wireless communications for 'fit-and-forget' installation on commercial rail vehicles. This would allow the technology to be deployed in international rail projects, facilitating low-cost, long ter...
MONITOR3D
1 Oct 2024 to 31 Mar 2025
Increasing the use of recycled materials in place of raw materials offers multiple economic, social, and climate benefits. It is vital in reducing environmental pollution and is key to meeting Net Zero targets. By recycling our materials, we conserve natural resources, reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions, and ultimately create a healthier plane...
Net Zero Rail Product Commercialisation Project
1 Mar 2024 to 31 Aug 2024
Peak to Peak Measurement Solutions Ltd. will work with a range of legal, strategic, and financial professionals to protect its intellectual property and support in negotiating and exploiting its rail product offerings with UK and International partners. It's technology specifically aims to support in achieving UK Net Zero targets.
A New Polymer Property Sensor to Enable Greater Use of Recycled Plasitics in Extrusion and Injection Moulding
1 May 2023 to 31 Aug 2024
This project aims to introduce a new revolutionary sensing technology that will give manufacturers previously unavailable information about their processes, and help them increase their use of recycled materials. Peak to Peak Measurement Solutions Ltd are specialists in condition monitoring using embedded ultrasonics technology. Our non-invasive condition...
Ultrasonic Instrumented Wheelset for Wheel-Rail Friction Management and Contact Monitoring : Turning a Revenue Service Vehicle to a High-Speed VTI Measurement System
1 Apr 2023 to 31 Mar 2025
Understanding the characteristics and conditions under which rail vehicles interact with the track are fundamental to efficient and effective railway operation. This project will develop a new technology for rail service operators to strategically manage and optimise vehicle-track interaction (VTI) condition through automated, accurate wheel-rail interfac...
A rapidly deployable rail stress sensor for next generation freight monitoring
1 Oct 2022 to 30 Sep 2023
As UK rail freight growth increases, a detailed live understanding of the network condition is essential and is driving the need for industry digitalisation in the form of real-time and in-situ condition monitoring. This is also a key enabler of automated networks and the adoption of autonomous vehicles. In the UK many of the existing wayside rail measure...
Embedded Ultrasonic NDT Wheelset
1 Jan 2022 to 31 Mar 2022
Canada has the 5th largest rail network in the world and rail service operators are challenged to maintain the trackage to provide safe and efficient services. Severe rail wear, surface damage, ballast disruption, and other problems often result in revenue rail vehicle speed reduction, service disruption, unscheduled engineering works, and sometimes catas...
