Armadillo Metal Coatings Ltd is a new company set up as a result of ERDF supported activity. The door furnishing market is forecast to generate around £500 million in revenues in 2020, with demand for copper and brasses growing. This trend should accelerate due to COVID-19, as surfaces that can prevent the transmission of viruses and microbes become more sought after in hospitals, public areas and offices. Armadillo Metal Coatings Ltd have developed an electroplating additive that adds value to the metal coating by enhancing resistance to corrosion and tarnish.
Development of a new additive, that when added to a plating process forms regular and welldispersed deposits within the metal matrix, protecting the entire surface, is both new-to-company and new-to-market. The novel product detects early-stage corrosion and responds by releasing an on-demand inhibitor. Armadillo's new technology keeps decorative metal shining for over five times longer, and relieves the maintenance burden experienced by the end user. When applied to copper, excellent microbe / virus resistance is achieved with vastly reduced maintenance, particularly beneficial given the current Coronavirus pandemic. Additionally, the company now supports three full-time employees.
