There are approximately 200,00 sewer blockages through the UK every year, It is estimated that 75% are caused by Fat, Oil and Grease, FOG. Commercial properties appear to be major contributors to FOG especially in areas of the cities where there are a concentration of food service establishments such as pubs, restaurants, hotels, takeaways and convenience stores. FOG entering the waste water system causes a number of problems such clogging the system by restricting capacity, blocking and damaging pipes.This increases both time and money required for cleaning and maintenance. Ultimately this has an economic impact both for the water companies and the consumer in increased costs. Traditional methods for the management of FOG are grease traps, collection methods and skimming but they do not tackle the problem at source especially washing of utensils and grease filters as this contributes to the greater build of FOG in the sewer systems. These methods do not offer an environmentally friendly solution to this major problem of FOG but only allow it to be moved on. The innovate Smart Sink has been designed to eliminate and reduce FOG at source were pre washes can be done and the effluent is not discharged into the drainage system but neutralised using bio-remediation. The micro organisms used in the Smart Sink hydrolyze and break down FOG into smaller molecules and contribute to a complete digestion of solid waste. Over a period of time the effluent can be discharged into the sewer system which in self is beneficial for clearing any residue of FOG in the drains. The versatility of the Smart Sink not only offers a very simple cost effective workable solution for any catering establishment, but also comes with green and clean credentials.
