The project, led by Mercedes-Benz UK, involves the trial and public demonstration of smart electric drive vehicles with dedicated users in partnership with EDF Energy. During the project, participants will benefit from public and workplace recharging infrastructures deployed across the London and South East region (but the project’s primary focus is associated with domestic vehicle recharging behaviours). The project includes attitudinal and perceptual research activities; and each vehicle is equipped with GPS data loggers to capture key datasets as pre-determined by Technology Strategy Board.

The CABLED project will showcase electric cars across Birmingham & Coventry in the West Midlands. The project will make Ultra Low Carbon Vehicles available to a wide cross section of real world users and collect data on their everyday use. The CABLED project will use the data to understand how the vehicles are used in real life and to assist in the planning of the further expansion of EVs. This project will: • deliver a showcase demonstration of 100+ ultra low carbon vehicles across Birmingham and Coventry in West Midlands. • deliver the infrastructure required in the users' property, in workplaces, and in public areas. • provide extended real world vehicle evaluation and usage data to allow final development and hence ensure successful production launch of ultra low carbon vehicles. • collect data to measure vehicle performance, infrastructure usage patterns, impacts and requirements with a minimum 12 months experience of seasonal conditions from all vehicles. • publicise the benefits and progress of low carbon vehicles

Provide an ''active aerodynamic device'' that is fitted to commercial vehicles to reduce both consumption and carbon pollution. The device is being designed to improve fuel consumption by over 6% of equipment readily available and fitted today by manufacturers & body-builders or 10% of no device fitted. The product is intended to be fully automatic that requires no driver interaction and adjusts automatically to accomadate:- - Variable trailer heights - Weather, wind and temperature changes - Speed and driving conditions
