Cold Ironing, also known as shore-to-ship power, is the practice of connecting ships to on-shore power sources while at berth, rather than using their onboard engines. This technique is effective in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, air pollution, vibrations, and noise at ports. While some ports have infrastructure to facilitate this, many face challenges due to limited space and the high costs of upgrading the grid. Our solution is a compact, shore or barge-mounted fuel-flexible Free-Piston Engine Generator (FPEG). Unlike traditional generators, the FPEG can use multiple fuels because it doesn't rely on standard engine components. This design also makes the engine lighter and easier to maintain. It's a cleaner, more versatile power source for ships, aiming to make ports greener and quieter.
