Hugh Frost Designs have designed a concept whereby goods that would otherwise be stacked on pallets, would be stacked on static “receptors” when stationary, and when moved, would be carried by vehicles also equipped with receptors. In order to transfer between storage and vehicle there would be conversion kits for forklift trucks that enable them to lift and lower loads off and onto the receptors at the same speed as with standard pallets. These could range from simple "intelligent" tines to autonomous devices that could be used to load vehicles from the back. The prime benefit is the elimination of wooden pallets, many of which are single trip, and the costs and carbon footprint associated with collecting empty pallets and returning them to the primary producer for reloading.
