"It is clear that the ability to monitor the physiological status of decommissioning operators in real time during an entry when they are wearing encapsulated PPE is something that will add significantly to their protection and allow them to operate within safer working thresholds. This solution provides such a monitoring solution. In addition to introducing this new physiological monitoring functionality, it will also introduce a Heat Strain Index (HSI). The HSI functionality has been specifically developed for operators in encapsulated PPE, and includes a predictive aspect 15 minutes into the future. This allows supervisors etc. who are monitoring the operators live to take proactive action. Alongside HSI, a simple traffic light indicator alarms and alerts for other potential key events, including 'man-down' and high/low heart and breathing rate. In addition the solution integrates with a mobile communication solution, which will provide the physiological data transfer as well as audio/voice capability. This will address the challenges often faced by Sellafield in getting secure communications in all the different locations and structures where decommissioning needs to occur."

Hidalgo are applying for a voucher to help identify the appropriate security measures required for the Equivital range of solutions. The voucher will accelerate our ambitions to implement a secure system which includes transmitting and storing physiological data.
