To develop a range of metal based laminate materials with high temperature thermal insulation and noise and vibration attenuation properties together with fire resistance capability.

BS Stainless has identified a niche market for the safe edge stainless steel strips (banding). The safe edges are high end products and used as an fastening products for the thermally insulated oil and gas pipelines. BS Stainless is the only company in the UK to supply banding with safe edges.The safe edges ensure high standard health and safety on the oil and gas pipeline installation sites. Though these are a specification of only high end market, but the demand is increasing and this led us to this project.This project in line with the 5 year innovation plan of BS Stainless Limited. As a result of our previous efforts in Research and development we have developed a machine to make the edges of the bandings safe. This is a very basic design machine as the idea then was just to develop the process equipment. We are now trying to innovate the design of this machine to try to improve the efficiency of the machine, the production rate and also the health and safety standards.

To develop and embed methods of heat transfer analysis and corrosion resistance evaluation in the design of protective insulating jackets for petroleum pipelines and tanks.
