The publishing sector has a turnover of £20 billion, more than 8,500 companies directly employing around 167,000 people, plus more than 25,000 authors. Publishing is however changing fast as the focus moves to generation of and access to digital content: and our experience as authors is that “bite-sized” content creates new revenue streams. Many UK SME book publishers are challenged by the risks of a new business model. The feasibility study proposed is for a portal to facilitate UK SME publishers reaching the global market for bite sized content, using digital content on PCs, tablets or phones.
