The goal of the project is to support the daily living of blind and visually-impaired people in challenging tasks like participating in urban mobility, providing a simple, effective and affordable door-to-door navigation and mobility assistance solution. Contrary to the usual tools providing only outdoor navigation, we also target situations where the blind person plans a journey which includes travelling through unfamiliar indoor environments or when the journey targets visiting complex buildings. The overall mission of the project is to: - Create and demonstrate the feasibility of an urban mobility ecosystem to support travelling and navigation of blind and visually-impaired elderly by researching and developing an integrated ICT service framework that facilitates sustainable and easy-to-use mobility assistance leveraging the power of a healthy community. - Propose a long-term and sustainable solution for the challenges of the topic without the need for significant infrastructural changes and on affordable costs, by raising and maintaining awareness of citizens of the benefits of cooperation in mobility tasks; respectively by providing them publicly available, reliable and multi-modal support.
