The Poultry and Egg industries have come under a lot of bad press over the years, and are not viewed positively in the publics’ eyes. Also, due to financial pressures in the food industry, the egg industry is run on very tight margins. Recycling egg shell waste will allow the industry to meet Corporate Social Governance responsibilities and improve their public image, while providing revenues which will improve their bottom line. In a previous TSB study, we identified materials that can provide immediate products plus additional long term higher value products. In the proposed study we will investigate the chemistry/ biochemistry of the patentable processes associated with the isolation of a dual product stream, in a cost effective manner. We have identified an immediate market for both calcium carbonate, which will provide revenues now, and markets for a mixed protein material which will require minimal process development, both of which will provide positive revenues, and will support the development of higher value products from both material streams
