InSync Technology has created a cutting-edge standards converter (FrameFormer), targeting a
software implementation, through a combination of innovations in highly efficient motion
processing algorithms and new methods for image analysis. This radical new design enables
higher quality results with fewer processing cycles.
In order to commercialise this converter, prototypes must be developed which integrate the
FrameFormer functionality into a number of third party "host" products. Each third party host
has its own application interface requirements, thus necessitating multiple prototypes in order
for FrameFormer (and derivative products) to reach a viable market share.
Our proposed project requires two development strands to achieve our aim of real-time
conversion performance accessible to customers via host products. Firstly, we must rapidly
transfer our conversion algorithms from simulation into efficient, product-ready software
which can be run on standard industry computers (Central Processing Unit (CPU) only
implementation). This requires intensive prototyping effort by skilled software developers,
aiming to create parallel processing paths which exploit available computational resources. In
addition, proven cloud-based implementations are required to establish unique, sustainable
competitive advantage and secure market success.
Secondly, we must create application programming interfaces (APIs) between our converter
and each third party host. Since each host has its own specific requirements, we need to
develop and test multiple APIs. Some host integrations also require a dedicated graphical
user interface (GUI) where the user will interact directly with our product.
Our prototypes need to be tested with a number of end users to ensure we have the right
features, functionality, and performance. Customer feedback will help shape our marketing
strategy. Marketing of our product is primarily via our host partners who have existing
channels to market.
