Ecocap Limited is developing a bottle cap made from PET plastic as a means of facilitating the recycling of plastic bottle caps. Currently, most bottle caps used on PET bottles are made from the polymers PP or HDPE as they create less friction when screwed onto the bottle. Unfortunately, due to collection and sorting problems, few of the 500 billion bottle caps produced each year are recycled which leads to 100,000 tons more plastic polluting the environment. Our vision is to create a properly functioning PET bottle cap so that it can be recyled right along with the bottle. Such an innovation would make it easy for consumers to recycle their bottle caps, would conserve energy and natural resources and would avoid a substantial amount of pollution.
