This project aims to assess the feasibility of a low-carbon, innovative seaweed-based mulch film to replace conventional and un-recyclable films. This represents a significant improvement over existing biodegradable polymer solutions, often made using petroleum-based materials. Our agricultural film will be suitable for organic farming and help support crop production, increasing yield, and improving soil health.
The project will assess the technological challenges, environmental impacts, and market need in the development of PlantSea seaweed-based mulch film. The project expands on novel methodologies developed by PlantSea for processing and production of seaweed-derived biomaterials. This project is in collaboration with BioComposites Centre and G's Fresh farms, including a few industry experts leading within the polymer and farming industry.
