The aim of the project is to demonstrate an innovative non-conventional silicon solar cell with
greatly improved effciency compared to present technology. It aims to fabricate a 22% solar
cell efficiency using normal solar grade monocrystalline silicon wafers. This result will be
achieved by developing a process in which deep grooves are doped alternately p and n type on
the rear surface of the cell and electrical connection is made by plating technology. The
combination of laser processing, plating and a standard quality wafer will significantly reduce
the cost of the solar cell compared to present technology. A successful demonstration of the
solar cell concept will lead to scaling up to 30 MWp production of the new cell.
