GRD Proof of Concept
The application is presented by Therm Tech; a leading manufacturer of systems for heat recovery and transfer as well as fume abatement and pollution control in fume producing heat process plants. The key for Term Tech is the improved efficiency and reduced operating costs associated with marinating and running the system, as well as the potential for waste by product re-use through the production of a clean conditioned oil condensate as proposed in this project. The aim for Therm Tech is the extension of knowledge, improved performance and design processes for their Elector Static Precipitators and similar systems to retain their industry leading philosophy. The focus of this application is the research and development required for Therm Tech to make significant architectural and chemical changes to their existing ESP technology, explicitly Therm Tech wish to modify the standard washing procedure for ESP plates, allowing for more effective cleaning and maintenance procedures, leading to more efficient and continual use while improving energy efficiency and reducing the environmental impact associated with fume producing plants. Therm Tech have employed empirical methods for development of their systems, they now wish to develop a more theoretical understanding of the process, enabling the development of high performance and high capacity systems. The commercial motivation for this application is the increasing market size in the UK and Europe for PVC producing plants, particularly for the production of vinyl. Our target market will be PVC producing plants initially, allowing us to exploit systems with tremendous reward to plant operators with an overall aim to improve our fundamental knowledge for the design and development required to provide systems capable of meeting expected performance standards.
