Duvas was established in April 2008 to develop and commercialise a new multi-species gas
analyser.
The technology permits highly specific ultraviolet fingerprinting which allows for the
identification of many key gases, which other technologies either simply cannot measure, or
that cannot be measured in a single device. The unique strengths of the technology include the
ability to carry out multiple species accurate real-time gas analysis within a single costeffective
compact unit, which can be deployed on either a fixed, mobile, or portable basis.
Core technology development has to date been focussed on the AQM market, however Duvas
now wishes to expand into the oil & gas (O&G) industry, which opens up a significantly
larger global market opportunity.
In order to address the O&G market, Duvas needs to develop a prototype field portable gas
analyser, which market research has indicated will require a 50% reduction in size and weight
from the existing AQM market device requiring a re-designed optical configuration. As
importantly, the O&G industry also requires very high safety standards given the potentially
combustible environment, such that any equipment should not risk cause of any sparking or
other ignition of liquids / gases (ATEX certification).
The O&G field portable gas analyser will allow faster identification of gas leaks that will lead
directly to health and safety benefits. There are also economic implications in terms of
refinery downtime should carcinogenic chemicals be present.
For the UK, as well as additional jobs at Duvas, we intend to manufacture the units in the UK
and have narrowed down potential manufactures to two, one in England and one in Scotland.
The success of an O&G product will create a small, but highly skilled, number of
manufacturing jobs.
The objective of this project is to develop a field portable gas analyser for the O&G market,
which is important to the commercial success of the company.
