The National Computing Centre (NCC) survey of IT investment found that nonprofits
invested the least per head in technology of any sector they studied, closely followed by
Education. Nonprofits are therefore missing out on potential exploitation of advances in
computer science that in other sectors have been transformational.
Deep learning algorithms can tell us when, where and how much people give. The
neuroscience of philanthropy can help to tell us why they do. Combining machine learning
analysis of donation data with how our brains process information about philanthropy
represents an entirely new approach to streamlining and optimizing charities’ fundraising
efforts, thereby increasing their capacity to have impact.
The PressPlay prototype is an online tool designed to enhance the relationships that nonprofits
have with their supporters, their donors and others holding an affinity to a non-profits'
cause. It achieves this using an artificial intelligence framework that develops relationships
with individuals via automated messaging across email and social media, customised landing
pages and personalised calls to actions. The system personalises the individual journey based
on profile information (assimilated from social media monitoring, geolocation, data entry),
behaviours (how they react and respond to different stimuli) and demographic profiling to
optimise the donors' experience and heighten their propensity to commit to the cause.
RaisingIT has over five years of experience in raising millions of pounds for UK nonprofits.
By working with neuroscientists who have a depth of research into philanthropic motivations,
we will create the pathways, and the technology which will evolve and adapt over time based
on the assimilated data and feedback loops to drive forward the efforts according to learned
best practice of any given non-profit.
