Snowcarbon is an independent website founded by two ski-travel journalists to help inspire and enable more skiers to travel enjoyably and sustainably from the UK to ski resorts in the Alps by train - without needing to fly or drive. Although there is high demand amongst skiers, uptake is currently limited by the lack of guideline information about journey schedules and lack of fixed-in-advance rail prices with which ski tour operators can create rail-inclusive ski packages. Snowcarbon has developed innovative solutions to these barriers to sustainable travel including its Journey Planner and Dynamic Packaging System. Both newly developed systems use technology to extract wide-ranging data from a variety of rail-data sources into easily accessible train-journey data that is available to use by an extensive audience. Both these innovations bring disparate data sets together to the benefit of sustainable travel in the ski industry.Snowcarbon requires help to develop these further in order to improve both their function and also to increase their accessibility. External expertise can help with the development in a number of key areas including usability and user experience, improvement in iFrame integration for deployment on other websites and also more advanced technical development of the package section and extraction and integration of automatic live train-price data sets.Successful development of the Journey Planner and Dynamic Packages will enable Snowcarbon to increase the variety and uptake of sustainable tourism products and provide a unique service to skiers and the ski industry. It will allow Snowcarbon to offer an integrated and improved user experience with greater services, increasing the potential of new content providers, improving visibility and marketing, and helping it expand the number of partner ski destinations that it works with.
