GRD Proof of Concept
To investigate, as a reference site, the introduction of decision support software into the Cardiff Integrated Sexual Health (ISH) clinic in order to enable identification of low risk, asymptomatic patients so that more complex cases can be directed to senior ISH clinicians in order to meet care targets for patients seeking diagnosis and care for suspected Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs). Objectives: • To replicate the conventional diagnostic processes used by Cardiff ISH clinical staff with artificial intelligence that will also identify associated necessary diagnostic tests • To collect anonymised data from patients that ISH clinicians gather in order to make a diagnosis and enter that data into an artificially intelligent decision support engine • To construct with the assistance of the University of Glamorgan Department of Advanced Technology decision support software using artificially intelligent software plus clinical and statistical algorithms • To test the accuracy of the resulting decision support engine as compared with the gold standard of the diagnosis and management recommendation of the clinician • To assess, with the help of the Swansea University Centre for Health Economics, the potential value for money of the decision support engine for the public purse • To create triage software and appropriate hardware to direct patients to the clinical pathways and ISH clinic resources appropriate for their presentation. • To pilot the introduction of this software into the Cardiff ISH clinic It is proposed that the deployment of Time for Medicine (TfM)’s decision support software will streamline patient pathways by matching each patient’s needs with the appropriate level of care and ensure that the clinic is successful in achieving compliance with British Association of Sexual Health and HIV Key Performance Indicators, in particular that 98% of people are offered an appointment, or walk-in, within 48 hours of contacting an STI provider.
