Development of a specially adapted wireless vital sign monitor for paediatric use. The project will produce a working prototype system based on the Isansys LifeTouch Patient Surveillance System that will be clinically validated in a major children's hospital as part of the project.
The paediatric system will be suitable for use across a broad range of patients from neonates up to active adolescents, and will produce high quality, continuous real-time vital sign data as input for Paediatric Early Warning Scoring (PEWS) algorithms. Such PEWS systems have been demonstrated to provide significant clinical and economic benefits by being able to predict when adverse events or patient deteriorations will occur and this give nursing and clinical staff sufficient warning to take early preventative action.
