Public Funding for 51Degrees.Mobi Limited

51Degrees collect data about more than 2 billion unique web visits per month globally. Limited aggregation is performed by mobile device vendor, month and geography. Presenting this large volume of data in a form that does not result in loss of detail and that is easy to understand and interrogate has proven difficult. 51Degrees, supported by the Away Foundation, wish to create a Proof of Concept (POC) data visualisation tool which will use 3D animation of a rotating Earth where geographic contours are defined based on a given mobile device vendors popularity. The POC would be taken to Mobile World Congress 2015 (MWC15), and other events, in 2015 to gain marketing exposure for the technology and develop a business case for such interactive data visualisation tools. The POC is made possible by the inclusion of Web Graphics Language (WebGL) technology in iOS 8, released in September 2014, resulting in all major smartphone platforms supporting WebGL. The time is right to exploit this high end graphics capability to present complex data visualisation using 3D animation technology previously only available to the computer game and film industries on the small screen.
