The Caring Cloud project brings together voluntary and informal services to address the issues of remote caring of the ageing population. It will provide a basis for developing the private/consumer telecare market using cloud infrastructure, mobile devices and creating new value chains. The major technology innovation is the development of a scalable secure cloud database, which will capture data from various GSM enabled devices using SMS from users. This will enable interoperability of devices, ease of changing from one supplier to another, and the ability to use more than one supplier and build hybrid services. Also, the use of GSM to connect to telecare products will allow these to be interconnected and available to healthcare professionals and relatives alike, making the care package more immediately deployable and enabling closer links to be forged between the NHS and Social Services for better quality of life.
