Spinout profile
Company description
Created a University spin-out, PervasID to exploit the technology. The PervasID technology is based on a ground-breaking battery-less UHF RFID system that enables customers to monitor their items, both cheaply and effectively, in real-time. The RFID DAS system consists of a centralised RFID DAS controller/reader unit, feeding a number of antennas over co-ax cables. The antennas, which are distributed over the interrogation area are used in a collaborative manner for enhanced tag detection and location, compared with conventional systems. The time required to inventorise a large population of tags is also reduced. The RFID DAS unit is equipped with an Ethernet interface allowing tag information to be uploaded to a centralised server for processing, analysis and display.
PervasID develops a passive radio-frequency identification (RFID) tracking system which aims to detect and read tags with very high accuracy.
Project impact
The encouraging results of this grant and the successful collaboration with potential end users in trials have prompted the inventors of the technology to form a spin-out company, PervasID Ltd. In 2015 PervasID carried out a large trail with a Blue Chip retail store. The trail involved over 140 systems tracking goods across the entire store (typically over 100k items). This demonstrated that the approach is unrivalled in the market in terms of performance. Further trails which are hoped to lead to a nationwide roll out are on going. Has now received 750k seed funding and in 2018 £1.6m series A funding and has had sales to over 10 organisations
The company recently raised over £800,000 in investments to take its products to the next level, for use in retail, security and logistics.
The encouraging results of this grant and the successful collaboration with potential end users in trials have prompted the inventors of the technology to form a spin-out company, PervasID Ltd. The company is wholly owned by the inventors.

Game Changing 99+% Accurate Directional RFID Portal Integrated with Wide-Area IoT Analytics
1 Nov 2020 to 31 Jan 2022
To date, the tracking of individual products and components in applications such as industrial, retail, healthcare and manufacturing has been challenging to achieve in a commercially viable way. Active (battery powered) tags, although allowing a long-read range, are expensive, while reliably detecting cheap compact and ultrathin passive (battery free) tag...

To date, the tracking of individual products and components in applications such as retail, healthcare and manufacturing has been challenging to achieve in a commercially viable way. Pervasive Accurate Battery-less RFID Tracking
1 Feb 2015 to 30 Nov 2015
Item level tracking is considered the ultimate solution to inventory control in retail. Recent price reductions in passive (battery-free) ultra high frequency (UHF) radio frequency identification (RFID) tags have enabled individual items to be tracked from source to shop floor for the first time. However, the reading of such battery-free tags remains a ch...
PervasID Proof of Market - Wide area Passive RFID
1 Jan 2014 to 31 Aug 2014
Although radio frequency identification (RFID) is finding a growing range of applications such as in TFL’s Oyster cards, passive ultra high frequency (UHF) RFID has the potential to have a far greater impact across a massive range of commercial sectors if remote identification of items could be achieved without requiring the human intervention that is nee...
