EGridSync: Resilient timing for electricity distributed energy resource management

244,930
2022-11-01 to 2024-03-31
Collaborative R&D
The rapid move to decarbonize the economy, towards achieving governments Net Zero 2050 target, is leading to a revolution within the electricity grid. Large scale centralised generation, using fossil fuels, is being replaced by highly distributed generation from renewable resources including solar and wind. This increases the complexity of grid management with many more generators providing power to the grid. Electricity demand is forecast to increase as transport and heating is electrified. This project will help Sygensys develop its innovate products and services which need a resilient timing reference to measure electricity grid performance. Our system needs to be robust, providing reliable operation when subjected to equipment failure, natural disaster, or human action such as cyber-attack.

Collaborative R&D
Sygensys is developing technology to improve electricity grid resilience. This is based on using energy stored within Electric Vehicle (EV) batteries to provide power to consumers during grid fault conditions, including equipment failure, damage due to extreme weather or cyber attack. Our approach is highly innovative, with one patent application filed and 2 more being prepared. It helps reduce CO2 emissions from generators and provides adaption to extreme climatic events helping the move to NetZero. This projects seeks collaborative research and development opportunities for Sygensys in USA.
