Collaborative R&D
This project will explore a new, energy-efficient way to sterilise canned foods. The method, called **STAM** (Streaming-Assisted Thermal Accelerated Method), uses gentle vibration to move liquid inside a sealed container, spreading heat more evenly and reducing the time and energy needed for sterilisation. The work will design a small test rig and run independent trials at Campden BRI to compare the new process with traditional heating. If successful, the approach could significantly cut steam and water use in food factories, shorten processing times, and improve product quality --- contributing to lower-carbon and more sustainable food manufacturing in the UK.
