At the heart of our project is inclusion. Inclusive Immersive is an innovative smartphone app, for cinema, that will benefit millions of Deaf, hearing impaired and neuro-diverse people in the UK. Our innovation will enable users to view personalised subtitles in smart glasses, putting an end to infrequent subtitled screenings, so that more people can go to the cinema when they want with an improved and more inclusive experience. Our smart phone app works by synchronising subtitles from cinema projectors into smart glasses, displaying the captions in the user's field of view, so only they can see them. The beauty of this is Deaf, hearing impaired and neuro-diverse patrons, their friends and families could attend any performance together, doing away with the need to wait for limited captioned screenings. Other audience members would not be distracted or annoyed by on-screen subtitles as they will not be visible to them.We would also enable in-app British Sign Language interpretation. The app-user will be able to customise the subtitles, for example size and colour. Cinemas will fund the smart glasses. The cost of this will be offset by increased cinema attendance and revenue because our innovation will reduce the barriers to accessing cinema.
