Chiaro is a pioneering women's technology company that recently launched Elvie - an award winning exercise tracker for your pelvic floor. The proposed project will accelerate the development of Chiaro’s second innovative product, a new connected device designed to have a substantive impact on women's lives.
"Chiaro is a pioneering UK technology company, specialising in devices targeted towards women's health. Its lead product, Elvie Trainer, is an award winning pelvic floor exerciser and tracker.
The proposed project will accelerate the development of Chiaro's third innovative product, a new connected device designed to have a substantive impact on women's lives."

Awaiting Public Project Summary
Wearable Technology has the potential to change the way that women and men exercise and
look after their bodies. The drastic reduction in the cost of sensors and the rise in use of smart
phones and exercise apps creates an exciting opportunity to develop exercise aides that can
track and provide real time bio-feedback.
The challenge is to move from passive to more active real-time feedback and to develop more
localised muscle activity feedback. Our project will investigate how we can adapt existing
sensor technologies used in clinic settings to the consumer market, in particular for women.
We aim to develop new ways of measuring muscle activity by adapting sensor systems and
machine learning algorithms to provide personalised and relevant feedback.
Giving women technology to track their exercises over time reinforces the process of building
habits that lead to a change in health and an improvement in the quality of life.
GRD Development of Prototype
There are parts of our bodies that we don’t talk about much yet are really important for our
personal wellness. At Chiaro (meaning to be open and candid), we aim to develop technology
to enable women to take control of their personal wellness.
Over one third of women in the U.K will suffer at some point from the physical problems
caused by damaged pelvic floor muscles. These muscles attach to the pelvis and act as a sling
to hold up the reproductive organs as well as playing an important role in core stability.
Although more intimate and hidden than most muscles, they are essentially the same: they
need to be looked after and general fitness is important (Kegel exercises).
However, they can easily become damaged through too much sport, putting on weight or
pregnancy and childbirth. This can, in turn, impact on many different aspects of a woman’s
overall wellbeing ranging from her confidence to physical and sexual problems.
Our project aims to develop a new product help women learn how to exercise better (as a lot
of women get it wrong) and to understand their progress in order to improve overall wellness.
We believe there is an unprecedented opportunity right now to push the boundaries on this
area of women’s personal wellness which has received little attention but is so important to
women around the world.
CHIARO aims to bring product innovation to the area of personal wellness. We require the services of an individual or company who has an in depth knowledge of setting up and maintaining a secure data platform which will fully protect a user's data while it resides on their device and the cloud. This individual will need to be familiar with mobile development platforms (e.g. iOS and Android) and server side technologies. Furthermore, they will need to have an in depth knowledge of best practice methods for digital security - such as the various ISO standards regulations that are required for online products.
