Collaborative R&D
The insatiable demand for network connectivity is mainly driven by the deployment of commercial 5G networks and complex multi-domain integration (MDI) solutions for Governments. Emergency, disaster relief and large-scale command-and-control situations also require network connectivity, usually on a short-term basis, and often need to be deployed by non-specialist personnel. Much of the data is carried by microwave radio links. Bandwidth, data rate and reliability are perennial problems for communications and data links, and the associated technical problems are set to worsen as increasingly sophisticated communications come into service. Where fixed connectivity back-haul, i.e. fibre, is not available, networks rely on Point-to-Point (PTP) radio links. These are already congested and will be forced to use higher frequencies. As frequency increases, antenna beam-widths decrease to fractions of a degree accuracy over long distances, making manual antenna alignment more difficult, time-consuming and labour-intensive. Deployment for temporary installations is a non-starter due to this complexity. AccuLink will develop a range of products to automate microwave antenna alignment, compensating for tower sway, and maintain accurate alignment to ensure full connectivity for high-quality robust links, permanent or temporary. The AccuLink system will have embedded microprocessor control linked to the microwave transceiver, and polling sensors like GPS and Compass. System software will provide easy-to-use tools for acquiring, tracking, peaking and maintaining the wide-band radio link. Simplifying the initial link installation by automatically aligning the antennas will ensure that PTP microwave links, which are often mounted on tall structures that physically move, can remain aligned in real-time, enabling mobile providers to deliver high-quality service, cost-effectively. The same advantages will apply to AccuLink's temporary/mobile solutions. AccuLink's innovative use of technology will enable a significant reduction in deployment and maintenance costs.
