Plastic is here to stay, whether we like it or not. So at Future Makers, we're learning how to recycle it from the ground up. Revolutionising Education with Plastic RecyclingFuture Makers will integrate art and practical experiences to teach primary school pupils about plastic recycling and sustainability. We aim to reduce plastic waste by promoting effective recycling and industry change. By transforming plastic waste into artistic and functional school products, we inspire young minds to appreciate plastic's value, embrace recycling, and shape a sustainable future for the plastics industry (OECD, 2019). Project Overview Our program combines artistic creativity with sustainable practices. This includes unique collection vessels, interactive educational sessions, and transforming collected plastics into new school items. This engaging approach instils a deep understanding and appreciation for plastic's potential. Key Features Engaging the Next Generation in Transforming the Plastics Industry: Addressing the plastics industry's recruitment challenges (British Plastic Federation, 2024) and the forecasted tripling of virgin plastic use by 2060 (OECD, 2019), we engage young learners in practical recycling and innovative solutions, nurturing future environmental leaders. Artistic Engagement in Recycling: High-quality, sculptural collection points double as educational tools, enhancing the visual appeal of recycling and promoting plastic as a valuable resource (WRAP, 2022). Win-Win Partnerships: Our flexible sponsorship model for plastics and waste management companies funds school programs, enhances CSR visibility (McKinsey, 2019), and supports sustainability initiatives. Circular Economy in Action: We demonstrate circular economy principles by collecting plastic waste, transforming it into artistic school assets, and showcasing the process with data reports. Comprehensive Educational Programs: Interactive sessions will explore plastic waste, recycling methods, and environmental impact, using recycled materials as teaching aids. Project Goals * Establish a scalable and profitable education platform within the sector. * Improve perceptions of plastic and enhance recycling education. * Collect valuable environmental impact data. * Promote artistic and creative learning. * Establish sustainable strategic partnerships. * Demonstrate the circular economy's practical benefits. Expected Outcomes * Creation of a sustainable marketplace for recycled plastic art and products. * Enhanced perception of plastic as a valuable resource. * Formation of at least one strategic partnership focused on sustainability. * Provision of measurable data reports, illustrating the circular economy in action. Impact Future Makers aims to inspire the next generation to actively participate in recycling and sustainability. By promoting innovative practices and reshaping perceptions of plastic, the project contributes to a lasting positive impact on students, schools, and the broader community.

Plastic. It's an international problem. It's an environmental scourge. Yet, it's a material with extraordinary properties. Our relationship with plastic is complex but it's something we desperately need to set some new boundaries with if we're going to tackle our environmental challenges. Here at Future Makers, we're driving a quiet revolution. Within our 9,000 sq ft warehouse at the Makers Yard in Nottingham's new Trent Basin development, we're creating a hub for entrepreneurial artists, designers and makers. A place where we can forge collaborations and innovations that feed into our local circular economy. In this space, we're building a plastic repurposing studio that will shape new ways for people to engage with recycled plastic as a material for the future.
