Portent.IO plans to use the power of big-data analysis and real-time market research data to
build a predictive analytics engine to help companies in the entertainment and film industry:
increase ROI, predict how likely outliers are, understand how to most effectively market films
and predict revenues based on territory and distribution channels.
We plan to this by tracking and analyse a vast data set including: 400,000+ films, stock
market data, Twitter sentiment, predicted & historical weather patterns, press coverage,
reviews, Wikipedia activity and film award nominations. Then using a combination of graph
theory, stochastic calculus, page ranking, linear algebra and regression analysis we will
process the data to produce a weighted and interdependent score for each data point of the
project (these include: actors, directors, producers, writers, MPAA rating, language, date of
release, runtime, genre, budget, territories, marketing spend etc.).
Then we will combine this data with real-time audience market research and subsequently
build a real-time predictive model which will output the following results: how much money a
film is likely to make based on territory, how likely it is to win Oscars etc., which
demographics will be most interested in a film, and insights into how to better market a film.
As we progress with the project expect to develop a significant amount of unique IP which we
will patent and expect the output to have global commercial possibilities.
Portent.io uses big data to make better desicions in the film industry, predicting how much a film will make and how critically acclaimed it will be with a high level of accuracy before launch. Our model uses 1000's of data sets including not only millions of films but also weather data, stock market data, consumer confidence data and many more to create our predictive model which operates in a similar manner to Google's page ranking engine.
With interest from multiple sectors in the film industry we are poised to provide significant value which will lower the costs and risk of film production worldwide.
We are also continually working with academia and the film industry to improve our product and our offering.
