Public Funding for Gormley and Gamble Limited

This project covers the development of a scalable data capture and on-demand manufacturing solution for trousers, which offers women 960 different fit options versus the 〜5 sizes offered by retailers. The problem we are solving is: 9/10 women struggle to find clothes that fit well , 71% of returns are due to 'fit' \[McKinsey\] and an estimated 50% of these are never re-sold but discarded or destroyed \[Optoro\], creating a huge environmental impact. The fashion industry has become reliant on consumers accepting a trade-off between price and fit. At one extreme, 'fast fashion' offers as few size variants as possible but is readily available at low prices. At the other extreme, bespoke tailoring services will achieve a 'perfect' fit but taking 8-10 weeks with prices starting at £1000 for 1 pair of trousers. This project develops a new alternative: customers are matched to the best of 960 size/shape options at a pricepoint around 70% less than bespoke tailoring equivalents and in half the time. Focusing on trousers - the most frequently returned product category - the project scope enables us to develop our patent-pending solution and conduct an early test of product-market fit via a customer trial.
