The way we consume music is changing dramatically, with creators and consumers looking for new animative, interactive, reactive, immersive and contextualised experiences. Existing static audio files (e.g., MP3) are not fit for these purposes. Bronze is the file format of the future: an animative music format which enables intelligent, reactive music that can respond and change based on external inputs; and which can interface with, and exploit, the opportunities of machine learning. It is the only format which can deliver the interactivity required to keep up with transformative innovations across music, gaming and Web3\. This project will build the new Bronze Improv Engine, which will enable animative music to be used for the first time in live performances, with music adapting in real-time based on rules set by the artist, powered by machine learning, and triggered by external inputs, e.g., wearable sensors on the artist, lighting, and audience volumes and movements. The project will enable testing of the Improv Engine in a real-world demonstrator in a live performance by the experimental musician Arca, demonstrating the possibilities of the tool in enabling creative new ways of performance and of blending the lines between performer and audience.
