Founded in 2015 by Deeptech founders seeking the resources needed to grow their own spinouts, ScienceCreates is a Deeptech ecosystem that supports and empowers scientists and engineers to build world-class startups that can significantly improve the health of people and the planet. ScienceCreates has an active network of over 40 UK Deeptech member companies and 13 strategic partners providing business support. In 2024 alone, ScienceCreates members collectively raised over £77 million in investment from pre-seed to Series A. Their two state-of-the-art incubators provide 45,000 sqft of laboratory space for early-stage Deeptech companies in Bristol, with their 3rd incubator opening in 2025\.
Our accelerator provides founders with intensive business training, tailored 1:1 support and the opportunity to grow through non-dilutive and equity funding. The programme unites the collective expertise of 7 delivery partners and connects successful applicants to a wider network of over 40 companies and 11 strategic partners. Through the framework of the accelerator, candidates advance their IP strategy, technology roadmap, legal requirements, investor readiness, grant eligibility, leadership development and company brand, with bespoke support provided throughout.
The accelerator is open to both individuals looking to launch a company and existing founders with Engineering Biology start-ups in their very early stages. Founders are supported to launch and grow their deeptech companies in the UK within the timeframe of the accelerator; those who do are then eligible to apply for equity-free feasibility funding from UKRI and the opportunity to pitch to a network of investors.
ScienceCreates has delivered two rounds of their EngBio Accelerator Programme in partnership with UKRI, (Cohort 1: September-November 2023, Cohort 2: June-August 2024). The programme has a proven track record of success; our two UK-wide cohorts comprised a total of 43 entrepreneurial scientists. A total of 35 early-stage EngBio companies have graduated from the programme to date, with 17 of these being founded as a direct result of the accelerator. For each £1 of UKRI investment in the programme, graduates have leveraged £7.99 in further funding.
Through the accelerator, ScienceCreates is building a network of founders, mentors, partners, advisors and investors for the growing field of EngBio.
The ScienceCreates Engineering Biology Accelerator is a unique 9-week hybrid-learning programme which supports the training, growth and success of 24 early-stage founders in Engineering Biology, in partnership with the UKRI.
