An ageing UK population has meant an increase in people living with long-term health conditions e.g. heart conditions and COPD. This has led to a 42% increase in emergency admissions in the last 12 years, from 4.25 million in 2006/07 to 6 million in 2017/18, an increase in cost for the NHS from £5.5bn to £17bn [House-of-Commons,2018] Local authorities must identify elderly individuals susceptible to health conditions at an early-stage, to reduce the rate of emergency admissions. They must also provide care support using cost effective care models due to them having limited financial capabilities. In response to this challenge, many local authorities have developed care services using digital technology, known as 'telecare'. Telecare allows citizens to live independently, minimising the need for costly intervention or escalation to care agencies. Current state-of-the-art digital telecare solutions use a network of Peripheral sensors around the home to monitor vulnerable or older individuals whilst being attached to an emergency call centre. None of these solutions can connect with 3rd party health monitoring devices. Alcuris will build on our Memo Hub 1 device which connects to 3rd-party devices such as panic buttons, door and motion sensors by incorporating telehealth; to develop The Memo Hub 2. Memo has the potential to prevent higher healthcare costs to the NHS, enabling cost-effective early stage detection.

Collaborative R&D
Dementia cannot be cured or prevented. In the UK there are 850k individuals who have been diagnosed with dementia - 225k new sufferers are diagnosed each year. Of these, two-thirds live at home. Alcuris Limited has identified an opportunity for a range of connected products, the first; an aide memorie; the memo hub and an automatic pill dispensers; the memo pill. The Memo platform will enable individuals with dementia to live independently in the familiar and safe environment of their own home. The memo system offers many more benefits including: supporting carers (e.g. allowing a carer to check remotely that the patient has dispensed the correct medicines); relieving anxiety and worry of the carer and patient; and building stronger support networks between carers and healthcare professionals. Memo will offer an opportunity to monitor the progression of dementia, providing a valuable insight into how best to manage the care an individual needs. The memo sysetem can adapt to the individuals and families needs, moving with into a residential care enviroment if needs be.
