Spinout profile
Company description
Zentraxa operates a synthetic biology platform that designs, produces and tests novel peptides, which can then be used to treat human diseases.
Zentraxa's proprietary technological platform, Zentide, combined with extensive technical know-how pushes the boundaries of what can be achieved with synthetic biopolymers. The company specialises in the design, production and testing of complex novel peptides and, as a result of our proprietary peptide biosynthesis platform, has the ability to circumvent previously existing bio-design limits imposed by conventional peptide synthesis, with one universal process.
Precision engineering of bespoke peptide biomaterials
Project impact
Not yet evaluated.
The company has designed and produced a prototype transparent, water-proof bioadhesive for DSTL, our launch customer. This has currently completed testing and will enter a second phase of R&D to scale-up production and develop the correct formulation for use. Zentraxa is also extending these designs for use in a clinical setting, to replace cyanoacrylate-based adhesives that are currently used in surgical procedures. The company has recently been through its first investment round raising £0.5M of investment from angel investors. The company has also moved out of the University of Bristol and has established its own base of operations at the UnitDX incubator in the centre of Bristol.

Peptide Raw Materials for High Performance and Biodegradable Personal Care Products
1 Sep 2023 to 28 Feb 2025
Of the many environmental challenges we face in the UK, water pollution has been at the forefront in recent times. The DEFRA outcome delivery plan for 2021/22 lists the improvement of the environment through cleaner air and water, minimised waste, and thriving plants and terrestrial and marine wildlife first in its priority outcomes. Part of the solution ...
Enhanced bio-production of difficult to make peptide ingredients for specialty adhesives and personal care
1 Mar 2022 to 28 Feb 2023
By 2050, human society is expected to require roughly twice the resources the planet is able to supply to sustain itself. Public awareness of this issue has resulted in an increased demand for sustainable products, and a renewed interest in nature-inspired sustainable alternatives. Biomaterials can be used to provide efficient solutions in a range of area...
Quantifying Performance of Skin Adhesives in Wet Environments
1 Jan 2022 to 31 Mar 2022
The methods used across the healthcare industry to measure skin adhesion are limited as they do not accurately represent the real-life context. This impacts innovation in the area of skin adhesion as there is no widely recognised method to compare different products or technologies. This in particular makes judging the potential of new technologies challe...
Engineering Dis-Bondable Adhesives Inspired from Marine Mussel Foot Proteins for Applications as in Advanced Wound and Ostomy Care
1 Jan 2021 to 30 Jun 2022
Dispondable Industrial Bio-Adhesives for Innovation in Manufacturing
1 Feb 2018 to 31 Jan 2019
The global adhesives market is worth over £35 billion worldwide and although synthetic chemical adhesives are widely used in a large variety of manufacturing applications, there remains several challenges for the adhesives industry. These include reducing the environmental impact of the chemical production of adhesives and also the ability to disbond adhe...
