What is Face Donate? Face Donate is a secure app that enables donations to be passed on to people in food insecurity and to receive updates on how the donations were used. This provides a vehicle to for de-centralised healthcare and mental wellbeing by providing a novel platform to tackle food insecurity by ensuring that people in need are able to access donations in the form of credit they can spend at local retailers. How does it work? Face Donate can reduce food insecurity and food waste, with dignity, transparency and inclusion. Face Donate enables to eat healthily, choose culturally appropriate fresh food, and self refer to relevant organisations when in need of support. Face Donate pilots with the Hackney Food Bank (Trussel Trust) demonstrated an increase in self-reported hope, food security and mental wellbeing after using the Face Donate app. Why is this important today? There is currently significant pressure on the government to support with the cost of living crisis. The numbers of people in food insecurity is growing exponentially, and environmentally, food waste is a burning platform. Face Donate can provide the tools to help to solve both of these issues. In the UK, 2.17 million people used a food bank last year, approximately 3.2% of the population. This compares to an estimated 8.8% of the population reported to be living with food insecurity, demonstrating that many people in need will not use food banks. Food wastage from retailers contributes 10% of greenhouse gas emissions. Yet there are many people in need of this food. Why is Face Donate a good investment? Reseach by DEFRA shows that for every £1 spent on food security the benefits account for £14: this is corroborated by NISER research on Face Donate, demonstrating the impact of "curated digital cash-first approach" \[https://www.niesr.ac.uk/blog/nudging-towards-healthy-eating?utm\_content=207277729&utm\_medium=social&utm\_source=linkedin&hss\_channel=lcp-591969 \]
