Current garment recycling is hindered by the complex blend of fibres in most fabrics. As longevity often depends on harnessing the properties of different fibres in a blend (e.g. polyester for mechanical resistance and cotton for breathability), most textiles designed for extended life cycles create barriers to end-of-life recovery.
We aim to develop a weaving technology that allows for the easy separation of mixed fibre textiles, enabling efficient recycling into new garments or textile products. Our approach leverages our collective expertise across academic research, fashion design and textile manufacturing to offer a transformative approach to textile recycling, design for disassembly and product life cycle within the fashion sector.
