Company description

MoniRail develops an inertial measurement unit and data analysis tool for the rail sector, aiming to prevent faults by measuring train conditions and performance.

MoniRail is a new spin-out company from the Birmingham Centre for Rail Research & Education (BCRRE). Its initial focus is on commercialising an in-service train data analytics platform coupled with an inertial measurement unit (IMU) that enables continuous monitoring of track and train. The IMU can be used to collect data to monitor track geometry, ride comfort, and train condition and performance. The data analytics software platform converts data from the IMU into actionable condition information that predicts failures and allows for preventive maintenance by having a better understanding of the evolving condition of the assets.

Awarded
£249,148
Total cost £249,148

Rail incidents can take many forms and can results in many different types of intervention from temporary speed restrictions to full track closures. Many incidents either result from or cause track damage and in order to remove any speed restrictions or track closures engineers need to be confident that the track is in a safe condition. It is therefore co...
