Alphacells Biotechnologies Ltd is a recently incorprated spin-out that has been registered by Dr Rongjun Chen of Imperial College, University of London. The reporting PI (Professor Nigel Slater) is a shareholder in the company and Chair of the Scientific Advisory Board. The company has obtained seed funding from a chinese investor to develop cryopreservation technologies for the cell therapy industry (principally but not exclusively in China) using approaches similar to those established in the BBSRC funded project.
It is as yet very early days but the company is in negotiations for further funding with governmental and private investors in China that see considerable potential for the Alphacells technology in cell therapies, in which China is an acknowledged world leader.
