Zero Emission Workboat Propulsion (ZEWP) project collaborators will realise meaningful zero-emission workboat propulsion.
Steamology, project lead, deliver scalable and modular power solutions, embracing the hydrogen economy, eliminating emissions, replacing fossil fuels and fossil fuel engines. Zero-emission high torque turbines, 'drop-in' diesel engine replacement, power units deliver energy-dense, cost-effective, long-lived mechanical, electrical or hybrid power from 250kW-MWscale.
Rafnar project collaborators, are UK maritime experts, delivering Workboats focused on the need of both passengers and crew for maximum comfort and safety on board. Built on the ÖK Hull, a revolutionary hull-and-keel technology that is capable of up to 95% reduced slamming impact, ensuring exceptional dynamic stability and seakeeping performance for vessels, in the most extreme marine environments
Collaborators Steamology & Rafnar are closely located ~(20miles) with the staff, facilities and capabilities to deliver the key project outputs over 14-months:
* 8.5m Workboat demonstrator installed with Steamology zero-emission steam turbine and jet drive
* 'Bollard Pull' test and indicative performance data from in water and dynamometer test programme
* Commercial, certification and regulatory compliance plan
This will highlight the energy density, cost effectiveness, long life and lower total cost of ownership of zero emission hydrogen power. In particular when compared to battery and hydrogen fuel cell zero emission alternatives as well as low emission diesel engines using hydrogen and efuels.
This ZEWP project will commercialise knowledge through innovation activities, and lead to increased investment into research and innovation contributing to growing business activities and generating economic impact in the UK net zero hydrogen economy.
The project focuses on the specific Zero Emission Propulsion CR&D Maritime themes for Clean maritime technologies for all sizes and categories of maritime vessel.
Steamology adopt 'Cradle-to-Cradle' approach avoiding rare/toxic materials embracing circular economy and ESG targets.
Rafnar and Steamology have relationship with DNV and MCA for regulation, compliance and certification.
