OceanLens is an innovative and cost-effective imaging system designed for both underwater and surface applications, specifically addressing the need for affordable, professional-grade camera systems capable of capturing high-quality ocean science content. This project will involve the development, construction and testing of prototype hardware and software across a variety of environments and applications, demonstrating the system's quality, versatility and robust performance.
OceanLens offers several functional advantages over entry-level equipment. Key features include real-time video streaming, enabling immediate analysis and decision-making, as well as an integrated fault monitoring and alarm software application to enhance operational reliability and user experience. The system is engineered for real-time operation while underway, maintaining performance at speeds of up to 6 knots, making it suitable for dynamic marine environments.
The outputs from the OceanLens project will be showcased to key stakeholders and industry groups within the ocean science sector, highlighting its potential to enhance research, monitoring, and conservation efforts in marine ecosystems. By providing accessible imaging solutions, OceanLens aims to empower scientists, researchers, and conservationists to document and analyse vital ocean data more effectively.
