Sustainable Packaging Products Ltd is a UK based SME that is focused on the development and commercialsiation of alternatives to plastics for food packaging applications. SPP Ltd has developed novel coating chemistry and manufacturing processes to produce materials for the manufacture of beverage cups and bowls, food containers for ready meals and frozen food packaging that offer environmentally sustainable alternatives to single use plastic packaging. This project will support SPP Ltd with commercialisation planning and development with UK customers and end users. It will provide operational cost support for pilot material production to facilitate customer and end user validation testing. The project will also support UK based external, third party environmental testing including recyclability, compostability and biodegradation certification.

Set up in 2019, Sustainable Packaging Products Ltd is a leading UK based company in the development and production of sustainable packaging materials. SPP Ltd has previously worked on various projects including barrier papers for corrugate and laminated packaging materials and have a team of experienced and capable members to successfully deliver this _Industrial Research_ project. This 12-month project will see the development of a fully recyclable, biodegradable paper-based packaging solution as an alternative to single-use plastic items for frozen food packaging. Up to 50% of the 380 million tonnes of plastic that is produced each year, is for single use. This project will contribute to the reduction in single-use plastics, eliminating the need for any plastic in frozen food pouch and bag packaging. These outputs will align with current Government strategies such as England's Resources and Waste Strategy and the UK's Extended Producer Responsibility. No other company in the UK is offering the packaging solutions that will be developed in this project. If successful, our products have the ability to shape the packaging industry throughout the world, addressing the environmental crisis head-on.

Both companies have previously worked together on various projects including barrier papers for corrugate and laminated packaging materials and have a team of experienced and capable members to successfully deliver this _Industrial Research_ project. This 18-month project will see the development of a fully recyclable, biodegradable paper-based packaging solution as an alternative to single-use plastic items.
