OwlandLark is a UK-based sleep technology SME with a core project team of Elliott Koehler (industrial designer), Robert Bagge (software engineer), Finlay Hudson (AI researcher), Hafiz Shariff (product designer) and Nicholas Witton (sleep science).
Many with insomnia are unaware of why they face poor quality, disturbed sleep. However, they feel its impacts through lost productive work and increased susceptibility to chronic diseases. Good quality sleep is critical for health, so finding a solution that analyses sleep and suggests ways to improve it is vital. To this end, OwlandLark is developing a modular, portable bedside light that combines environmental sensing, sleep tracking and bright circadian-stimulating light with an accompanying mobile app. It will help those most disproportionately affected by sleep issues, like shift workers (many from low-earning backgrounds), individuals with neurodegenerative diseases (often older people), office workers and those living in the northern UK where there is less natural light. OwlandLark will be the first to provide an accurate, contactless, non-invasive, continuous sleep tracker that can offer environmental recommendations for improving sleep, including light to improve circadian rhythms.
